Piper’s Bookmark – FREE Crochet Pattern
Sometimes I look at my calendar in surprise that we’re already in the sixth month of 2023! I remember brainstorming about all the books I would read this year as well as the bookmarks I wanted to crochet with them and here we are — hopefully you’ve got five (and a bonus) of the bookmarks already added to your collection. Pretty soon, you’ll have the entire series of the Bookmark Bonanza CAL and many fond memories of the books you put them in.
To recap, the Bookmark Bonanza is a year-long crochet-a-long where I’ll read a book a month and crochet a unique bookmark alongside. I’ve unveiled four (plus one) patterns for the books Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend, This Tender Land, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Husband’s Secret, It Ends With Us, and The Alice Network. If you’ve been following along, you should have these bookmarks:
- C2C Corner Bookmark
- Simple C2C Bookmark
- Simple Moss Bookmark
- Shell Stitch Bookmark
- Juniper Bookmark
- Puffy Pom Bookmark
I know December seems so far away right now and you might be wanting to finish your collection before the year ends. You can easily buy the Bookmark Bonanza CAL Pattern Bundle. Each pattern comes with a video tutorial and a little book review.
You can share your thoughts on the book of the month in both my Facebook group and CAL group on Ravelry and see how others are using their bookmarks. This month, I’ll be diving into The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams.
Widower Mukesh lives a quiet life in Wembley, in West London after losing his beloved wife. He shops every Wednesday, goes to Temple, and worries about his granddaughter, Priya, who hides in her room reading while he spends his evenings watching nature documentaries.
Aleisha is a bright but anxious teenager working at the local library for the summer when she discovers a crumpled-up piece of paper in the back of To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s a list of novels that she’s never heard of before. Intrigued, and a little bored with her slow job at the checkout desk, she impulsively decides to read every book on the list, one after the other. As each story gives up its magic, the books transport Aleisha from the painful realities she’s facing at home.
When Mukesh arrives at the library, desperate to forge a connection with his bookworm granddaughter, Aleisha passes along the reading list…hoping that it will be a lifeline for him too. Slowly, the shared books create a connection between two lonely souls, as fiction helps them escape their grief and everyday troubles and find joy again.

More moss stitches?
The moss stitch is great for beginners wanted to expand their crochet knowledge. I love how easy they are to make and the way they look in both small and big projects (like this Piper’s Blankie).
