Free CAL | Bookmark Bonanza Crochet Along
It’s that time of year again for New Year’s Resolutions, goal setting, and improving oneself. This year I want to read more books!
My official goal is to read one book a month — at least one, anyway.
And I’m talking about an ADULT book! (Get your mind out of the gutter; I mean “adult,” like not a children’s picture book. Haha! And I have to READ it with my EYEballs, not just listen to it with my earballs (like I usually do with audiobooks on Scribd).
Why not host another FREE year-long Crochet Along?!
A CAL to help me with my goal, yes, please!
Last year I hosted the Monthly Mosaic Mystery CAL, which lasted all of 2022. And I am happy to announce that YES! I will be hosting another year-long CAL this year – but this time, it will be much smaller scale.

Let me officially introduce you to the Bookmark Bonanza Crochet-A-Long!
What is a Crochet Along?
Perhaps you have never participated in a Crochet Along before and you may be wondering what in the world I am talking about. A Crochet Along (CAL) is essentially an event where you crochet along with other people creating the same project. Each part of the pattern is released bit by bit, and you work at the same pace as other participants.
Pin this project for later.
How it will work.
There will be 12 different crochet bookmark patterns. Each design will be free on my blog, with one released each month. To find the featured bookmark pattern, scroll down on this post until you see pictures of each bookmark and press the button the says “Click here for the free pattern.”
Each bookmark of the CAL will be released mid-month from January through December 2023. (And January actually has TWO patterns to kick off the CAL!)
I will send out an email to announce the release of each new design, or you can simply come to this page and click on the new design to be directed to FREE chart for that new section.
If you would prefer to have printable patterns, you can purchase the full CAL pattern bundle which includes ad-free patterns for each bookmark right away in a downloadable PDFs.
After working each new bookmark pattern, make sure you hop on over to the Juniper & Oakes Crochet Community on Facebook or join the Ravelry CAL group as well. You can ask questions, post pictures of your WIPs and finished bookmarks, and comment on everyone’s projects. It will be a lot of fun!
If you don’t have Facebook or Ravelry, you can still participate in the CAL by creating your bookmarks on your own. Definitely post pictures and share about the CAL on any social media you have. Be sure to tag me @juniperandoakes and use #jaobookmark so we can see your progress.
I will also be posting videos on YouTube!
I already have a playlist for this CAL set up, and more videos will be added as they become available.

Don’t miss an update.
I will be sending out an email each time a new bookmark pattern is released. You will be the first to be notified of the next part of the CAL or any other yarn-related content. Sign up now!
The Yarn.
The yarn I used for these bookmarks is DK Mini Skeins from High Desert Yarn.
Each mini skein weighs 20 g and equals aproximately 46 yards.
The amount of yarn needed depends on different factors like yarn weight, hook size, and tension.
I used about 7 mini skeins in different colors for this project for all 13 bookmarks. Each bookmark uses between 10-30 yards.
SHOP MINI SKEINS NOW
P.S. I bought this yarn with my own money, High Desert Yarn is not sponsoring this CAL in any way. But if you do purchase from her shop using my affiliate links, Etsy does pay me a commission, so win-win!
The Hook.
I am using a E/3.5 mm hook to make my bookmarks.
The Books.
Each month I plan to read at least one book – novel, self-help, memoir, etc. I am going to read these books with my actual eyeball, and not my earballs (That’s for that term Elyse Meyers!). I tend to listen to books all the time. No, I don’t use Audible; I use Scribd! Scribd is a monthly subscription like Audible, but instead of receiving a free credit each month and getting discounts on other audiobooks, you get access to Scribd’s complete library as long as you’re subscribed. It’s pretty neat. That’s how I can get through so many audiobooks all the time. Here is my referral link to Scribd. Use it and we both get a discount on our subscriptions.
BUT enough about audiobooks, because we are reading actual words on actual pages here! lol!
I’ll try to keep a list here of all the books I have read and I’ll leave affiliate links to Amazon in case you want to buy it or listen on Audible. Click here for the full list.
Books Read in 2023
January: Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend by Matthew Dicks
This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger
The books I am reading have been recommended by people in my circle – family, friends, crocheters! If you have a book you’d think I’d find interesting, please send me an email or leave a comment below letting me know.
The Patterns.
As mentioned earlier, the patterns for each bookmark will be released monthly as free patterns on the blog, but if you would like printable patterns OR the complete CAL bookmark bundle today, purchase the full pattern bundle now! The bundle includes printable pattens for the EACH bookmark, you don’t have to deal with ads or wait each month for the next bookmark to be released.
