Mosaic Crochet Candy Corn – Free Blanket Strip Pattern
Candy corn is one of the more polarizing of Halloween candies. It seems like either people love it or they hate it. But no matter your opinion of the taste, you can’t deny that its bright and cheerful colors add a fun touch to Halloween celebrations—and to crochet projects! Work this mosaic crochet candy corn pattern as part of a frightfully beautiful Halloween blanket. Or use as an accent on a table runner, a sweater, or any fall project!

Inspiration for this Free Mosaic Crochet Blanket Strip Pattern
Every Halloween, candy corn surprises me once again. It’s always better than I expect. It has that sweet, nostalgic flavor that just feels like fall, and I LOVE it paired with dry, roasted, salted peanuts. The sweet-and-salty combo is simple but perfect, making candy corn taste even better than it does on its own.
With this mosaic crochet candy corn pattern, I wanted to capture that quintessential Halloween experience—the flavors, the colors, the sweetness—in a lasting form. The bright yellow, orange, and white of the candy corn really pop against a black background!

About Overlay Mosaic Crochet
As with nearly all overlay mosaic crochet patterns, this fun Halloween design is worked using just one color per row! This technique is easier that you may think. I’ve used it in dozens of designs and it’s a favorite among crocheters in my community. You can see all my mosaic crochet patterns and learn more about overlay mosaic crochet on this page.

Note: Since this blanket is a collaborative CAL, the Halloween Mosaic Blanket pattern uses slightly different notation from these tutorials. However, the terms and techniques are nearly identical. The exception is that this pattern uses bs (single crochet border stitch), where my patterns and tutorials generally use BBS (beginning border stitch) and EBS (ending border stitch).

Single Crochet Border Stitch (bs) – work a regular single crochet stitch as the first and last stitch of each row (designated on the pattern chart). When inserting your hook to make this stitch, I recommend inserting it between the two vertical bars of the stitch below rather than under the top loops. This can help make it easier to crochet into these stitches when you’re working the envelope border
Back Loop Only Single Crochet (BLO sc): Insert hook in back loop of indicated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook.

Front Loop Only Double Crochet (FLO dc): Yo, insert hook in front loop of st below the indicated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through two lps on hook, yo and draw through remaining two lops on hook.

Notes
- US Terms
- Multiples of 48 + 3
- The foundation row for the blanket uses FSC stitches. As an alternate option, ch 196, sc in second ch from hook, sc to end of the chain.
- Every row is worked in a different color.
- Fasten off at the end of each row.
- All FLO dc stitches are made in the front loop of the stitch two rows below.
- Recommend using the negative stitch to eliminate gaps on the wrong side of the blanket.
- Do not weave in your ends at the end of each row. The envelope border will hide them.
- There is no transition from section to section. Crochet the last row of a section according to the instructions and then start at Row 1 of the next section.
