Crochet this Zipper Pouch! – FREE Crochet Pattern
Are you forever losing your crochet hooks and notions? Stitch markers always seem to be running off into hiding and I can’t find my tapestry needle when I’m ready to weave in some ends! To solve this, I decided to design a crochet zipper pouch using the oh-so-easy moss stitch.
This simple crochet bag pattern is beginner friendly and will be ready in no time. There’s colorwork but you can make it as a one color pouch to store all your stationery, crochet goodies, makeup, and more. In my opinion, you can never have too many of these lying around. A Note About This Free Pattern
I am sharing a free version of the pattern below, but you can also purchase an inexpensive printable ad-free PDF from Ravelry where you can easily refer to the directions without the annoying pop-ups and ads or having your screen fade to black.

the Yarn
I used Wander Acrylic Yarn from Furls Crochet which was provided to me by Furls Crochet to use for a design in the 2023 Crochet Foundry Blog Hop. I was able to pick any yarn from the Furls yarn lines (they only have Wander and Whims) and my project.
I chose the Wander Acrylic Yarn because their colors are so vivid and beautiful, and the texture is soft and shiny. They really accentuate the stitch I used for this pouch. I chose these three colors (Dragonfruit, Aurora, and Snow) and you will need 1 skein of each color although you won’t be using it all.
If you don’t like the colors I chose for my pouch, feel free to pick whichever colors you want! Browse the fabulous variety in the Wander Acylic Yarn line and decide what you’d like your pouch to look like.
If you’re looking for an acrylic worsted yarn, I would highly recommend Wander Acrylic Yarn by Furls. Have you used it? What do you think?
Here are some Other patterns using this yarn
the Hook
I used a size G/4.0mm Laurel Streamline Wooden Hook by Furls Fiberarts. This hook was provided to me by Crochet Foundry for this design as part of the Crochet Foundry Blog Hop.
Even though this hook was given to me, because I love everything about it, I’ve bought similar ones from this line.
I have plenty of hooks from Furls that I think were fabulous investments. I love how this hook feels in my hand. The ergonomic design allows me to crochet away without wrist or palm pain and the yarn moves with ease from the hook while working up your stitches. And the overall look is so unique!
Do you have this hook? Or any other Furls crochet hook? Tell me about it. I’d love to hear your experience.

Video Tutorial
I have an easy-to-follow video tutorial of this crochet zipper pouch where you can find all of the information and instructions you need to construct it.

- Yarn: Wander Acrylic Yarn from Furls [100% Acrylic, Medium (4) Worsted 100g (3.5oz), 120 yds (109m)/skein] (or 3 colors of any worsted weight yarn). You’ll need 15 yards if you use 3 colors but if you’re making the pouch in one color, you’ll need a total of 45 yards. I used:

- Color B (Aurora) – 15 yards
- Color C (Snow) – 15 yards
- Hook: G/4.0mm

- Scissors
- Fabric hot glue gun
- 6.5′ x 4.5″ canvas zipper pouch or 6.5″ zipper
Gauge
9 sc stitches x 21 rows in 4″x4″ square using the Moss Stitch.
Finished Size
Approximately 7” x 5”.
Stitch Abbreviations (US Terminology)
- ch – Chain
- sc – Single Crochet
- sl st – Slip Stitch
- sk – Skip
Pattern Notes
- The special stitch used in this pattern is the Moss Stitch, which is essentially chaining 1 and working a sc in the ch 1 space of the previous row.
- The pouch in this pattern is from Hobby Lobby. Other stores sell similar pouches, but different sizes.
- If you prefer to make a different size pouch, simply chain any even number of stitches then work the pattern as written.
- Work more or less repeat rows if you’d like your pouch taller or shorter.
- Before finishing off the final sc in each round with the FINAL YO, drop the yarn you’ve been working with, pick up the next color yarn, and finish the stitch by yarning over and pulling through both loops.
- To make a solid colored pouch cover, simply use one color all the way around.
- The crochet cover is attached to the canvas zipper pouch using hot glue.
- Another option if you prefer to omit the canvas pouch, is to attach a zipper to the top of the pouch. You could use a method similar the one used in my pillow patterns, see tutorial here.
