Mosaic Squares Coaster – Free Overlay Mosaic Crochet Pattern
Have you ever attempted the overlay mosaic crochet technique? If not, this is the PERFECT pattern to get you started! It’s quick. It’s simple. It has easy-to-follow written instructions, a chart & a video tutorial!
The Monthly Mosaic Mystery CAL
This basis for this pattern was designed initially for the Monthly Mosaic Mystery CAL, which is a yearlong blanket crochet along that I am hosting on my blog. Each month in the year 2022, I am releasing a new blanket stripe using this technique. It is a mystery CAL because I design the pattern each month as I release it.

What Yarn Did I use?
I’m glad you asked. The yarn I used to work up this coaster pattern is Wander Acrylic Yarn from Furls FIberarts (aka Furls Crochet). I used remnants & scraps of the yarn I had leftover from my Porch ‘n’ Picnic Blanket that was featured in the August 2022 issue of the Crochet Foundry magazine put out by Furls. This yarn is shiny & soft & comes in some beautiful colors. Have you used it before?

- Pattern is worked from right to left on Right Side only.
- Every row is worked in a different color.
- Fasten off at the end of each row. (Though there is no need to weave in all ends as they will be tied off to create the “mug rug” look.)
- Every row begins with a sc through both loops as a “border” stitch.
- Every row ends with a sc through both loops as a “border” stitch.
- SC are worked in BL only of previous row, unless otherwise noted.
