Striped Moss Plant Pot Cover | FREE Crochet Pattern
This Crazy Plant Lady has done it again.
I have a new & free crochet pattern for all of my other crazy yarn ladies out there who also love PLANTS!
A plant pot cover!
These are a perfect way to add color & texture to your home without having to buy expensive new plant pots. The best part is, if you switch them out with other plant pot covers, you’ll be able to have endless options for your plant decor.
I have a couple other plant pot cover patterns: The Cozy Alpine Plant Pot Cover & the Mosaic Squares Plant Pot Cover.
This striped plant pot cover uses the Moss Stitch, so all you have to know is how to chain and single crochet. AND Because of the way the stripes alternates between three colors each round, there are very few ends to weave in! My favorite kind of pattern!!
Have you ever used the Moss Stitch before?
It’s truly one of my favorites.
And the stitch is so easy. I have a video tutorial for you in this post. Be sure to check it out.
The pattern for a 4” plant pot cover is included for free below. (I also have a premium pattern in my shops which included more sizes. This pattern is also available in an ad-free printable .PDF file for $5.00. It can be downloaded instantly from Etsy or Ravelry.)

About the Yarn
The yarn I used for this pattern was leftover yarn from my pattern I wrote for the Crochet Foundry digital magazine (the issue with my pattern will be released later this summer).
I used Wander acrylic yarn from Furls Crochet. I have been using their hooks for quite some time but had never used the yarn until they sent it to me for my Crochet Foundry pattern. The colors in the Wander line are so vibrant and beautiful! The yarn is also really soft- very similar to Caron Simply Soft.
Also similarly to Simply Soft, this yarn does have a tendency to split and my skeins had some knots it it. But perhaps the soft texture outweighs those cons.
Have you used it? What do you think?
You can use my affiliate link to shop this yarn, and definitely shop their hooks too!
The Striped Moss Christmas Lapghan
If you enjoy this pattern and are looking for another way to use it. I have a blanket pattern using the moss stitch that I released this past Christmas. Use brighter colors for a summer-time blanket.

Pattern Notes
- US Terminology
- The pattern provided is for the 4” Plant Pot Cover. If you’d like instructions for the 2” & 6” plant pot covers, purchase the pattern from Ravelry or Etsy.
- Stitches between *asterisks* are repeated.
- Unless noted, do not turn your work after each round.
- Each color change happens at the end of the round. Instead of fastening off at each color change, I prefer to drop the yarn on the inside (WS) of the pot and pick it back up after the next 2 rounds are worked.
- The size of the pot refers to the diameter at the top. The base of my sample pots were approximately 1” smaller than the top.
If you prefer to make a different size:
- Wider/Skinnier pot: Add/subtract increase rounds at the base
- Taller/shorter pot: Add/subtract rounds up the sides
*Tip: before the round with the sc in BLO, make sure the base matches the size of the base of your pot.
- Round 22 is optional if you need to add stitches to the top of your plant pot cover, if it has a wider rim, for example. The pots that I used for my prototypes had a base that was about 1” smaller than the top of the pot. So I needed to add extra stitches to account for the size increase.
- Test for fit after completing each section (the base, body, and rim). Add/subtract rounds at each section when needed
- I reused a plastic sour cream container lid and placed it inside my plant pot cover before adding the plant for it to catch excess water and not ruin the cover.
