Cozy Striped Moss Christmas Lapghan | FREE Crochet Blanket Pattern
Who is ready to make a simple and easy Christmas blanket? I don’t know about you, but when the cold weather hits, I just want to watch Gilmore Girls and crochet all day!
This striped lapghan uses the Moss Stitch, so all you have to know is how to chain and single crochet. AND because of the way the stripes alternate between three colors each row, there are very few ends to weave in! BONUS!
Have you ever used the Moss Stitch in a blanket before? It makes a stretchy fabric that is just so wonderful! And the stitch is very easy. I have a video tutorial for you in this post. Be sure to check it out!

About the Yarn
This yarn was generously gifted to me by WeCrochet to use as a design for the Winter Wonders Blog Hop.
I was able to pick my own yarn and the project I wanted to do. I chose to use the Wool of the Andes Worsted yarn because I am used to working with worsted weight yarn, and really wanted to try out their Wool of the Andes line, as it seems to be their standard wool worsted weight yarn. Have you used it? What do you think?
You can use my affiliate link to shop this yarn, and browse for other favorites (I also used Wool of the Andes in my Twisty Tree Ornament. I used Brava in the Cozy Alpine Pumpkins & Cozy Alpine Pouf. I used Mighty Stitch in my Monstera Leaf C2C Afghan and the wall hanging too!)

Pattern Notes
US Terminology
Stitches between *asterisks* are repeated.
The special stitch used in this pattern is the Moss Stitch, which is essentially chaining 1 and working a sc in the ch 1 space of the previous row. I have written out how to work it up in Rows 2 & 3, and then simply refer to it as “Moss Stitch” there after.
Each color change happens at the end of the row. Instead of fastening off at each color change, I prefer to drop the yarn and pick it back up after the next 2 rows are worked. The extra yarn will be covered up by the border.
If you prefer to make a different size, simply chain an even number of stitches then work the pattern as written.
Work more or less rows if you’d like your blanket longer or shorter.

Instructions
Body
With Color A:
Ch 156 (or any even number).
Row 1: Turn, sc into 4th ch from hook, *ch 1, sk next ch, sc in next ch* repeat across ending with sc in last ch.
Switch to Color B.
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, sc into 1st ch 1 space *ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in ch 1 space,* repeat across, ending with a sc in turning chain 2 space of previous row.
Switch to Color C.
Row 3-228: Repeat Row 2. Alternating colors after each row.
Border
With Color A:
Round 1: Pull up a loop in sc 1 space, work the Moss Stitch around. In each corner, work (sc, ch 1, sc), and down the side (1 sc at the end of a row, ch 1, skip a row, sc into the end of the next row). Sl st into starting sc.
Round 2-8: Ch 1. Do not turn. Work Moss Stitch around, working (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner. Sl st to join.
Fasten off.
Weave in all ends.

Regarding the Striped Moss Christmas Lapghan, how many skeins/yards of each color yarn are used? I’m still a beginner and not good are guessing or figuring this out on my own.
Thank you.
How did you like the Wool of the Andes? I’m thinking of trying it in merino wool because of the itch factor, but the colors you used are gorgeous. Beautiful lapghan!
I think that the Wool of the Andes yarn is not too scratchy. Though there are definitely other softer options out there. This was my first time using this yarn.
I also would like to know how many skeins of each color you used for this pattern. Please let me know, as the yarn I would like to use is now on sale. Thanks!!
Yarn amounts:
Oyster Heather – 9 skeins (915 yards)
Gingham Heather Tweed – 6 skeins (590 yards)
Nobel Heather – 6 skeins (590 yards)
Hello. I am a crochet beginner and started the lapghan pattern after buying it on Etsy. I want to check that I’m doing it correctly. How many single crochets should I have in row 2?
Hi Leslie. Thank you for reaching out. If you started with chaining 156, you should have 76 sc and 76 ch1 spaces in row 1. Therefore, in row 2 there will be a sc in each of the ch1 spaces, making it 76 sc in row 2.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need anymore help.
Thanks so much!
You are so welcome!
