My color story for my home decor is blue, gray, whicker, and plants. I think you’ve sensed that by looking at all of my product photos. Lol! I like to keep my colors simple so that when I go to buy or make a new piece for my home, I know what will fit in and what won’t. I know buying something navy or whicker will more than likely not clash with my decor. But adding something orange will definitely stand out, and not in a good way!

This pattern uses the basket stitch, which is a combination of front-post and back-post double crochet. Have you ever tried using these stitches? I think that the outcome is quite stunning! I will try to come up with a video tutorial soon. But it is pretty straightforward. I know you can figure it out!

I’ve never seen the basket stitch used for colorwork, but somehow I pulled it off to make this heart! Maybe I will try to make a similar pattern for other holidays as well? Hopefully I can make it work. Which holidays would you like to see?

Pattern Details

Materials

• Yarn: size 4 worsted,

  • Color A: approx 130 yards

  • Color B: approx 50 yards

• Hook: J/10 (6.0mm)

• Wooden Dowel (12″ long x 3/16 ” in diameter) or stick

• Yarn needle

• Scissors

Finished Measurements

Approximately 12” x 15” without hanging cord

Stitch Abbreviations

• bpdc – Back Post Double Crochet

• ch – Chain

• dc – Double Crochet

• fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet

• RS – Right Side

• sc – Single Crochet

• WS – Wrong Side

Pattern Notes

• When the row begins with ch 2, it does count as a stitch throughout.

• Instead of beginning a row with ch 2, you may want to choose to use a false (or chainless) dc stitch as explained in this video.

• When changing colors, drop the previous color so the working yarn hangs on the WS, and pick it back up for the next row.

• You may want 2 skeins of Color A, and 1 skein of color B.

• All color changes happen on the WS so it doesn’t need to look pretty.

• Some prefer to use an H (5.0mm) hook.

• The hanging cord is optional, at times I prefer to hang it without the cord.
