Let’s get started and add that magical finishing touch to your masterpiece!
Welcome to the LAST installment of the Mosaic in a Month CAL! If you are just joining in, and need more info about the Mosaic in a Month CAL, read this post.
But I’ll give you a quick summary right here. We are all creating an heirloom geometric crochet blanket together over in the Juniper & Oakes Crochet Community FB Group. Each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during June 2024, a new free blanket section chart will be released on my blog in blog hop fashion, as there are 10 other designers who helped make this blanket!
The 12th (and last) section of the Mosaic in a Month CAL is the Rainbow Envelope Border designed by me, Erin of Juniper & Oakes.
Envelope borders are a GREAT way to finish off your mosaic blanket without having to weave in all those ends.

Overlay Mosaic Crochet
This geometric blanket CAL uses the overlay mosaic crochet technique to create each section. This technique is easier than it looks and is super addictive! You’ll need to know how to make foundation single crochet (FSC), back loop only single crochet (BLOsc), and front loop only double crochet (FLOdc), as well as beginning and ending border stitches.
You can learn everything you need to know about overlay mosaic crochet from this blog post, which includes photo and video tutorials for each stitch as well.

Notes
- Pattern is worked in the round.
- You will be crocheting two different borders and seaming them together to hide the ends on the side.
- Watch this video of a simple envelope border tutorial.
- Another border tutorial with a mosaic checker pattern.
- This border tutorial works if your border stitches are worked according to my method. If your border stitches are different, I have an easy hdc envelope border tutorial as well.

The Yarn: Light Worsted
Stylecraft Special DK (323y, 100g, 100% acrylic) or other light worsted yarn in 7 colors
The Hook: 4mm
I used a G/4.00 mm Silver Streamline Metal Hook from Furls Crochet to make my blanket. This hook feels so good in my hands and the yarn slides easily across the polished aluminum. If you have never tried a Furls hook, I suggest you head on over to their website and order one now.
Some people prefer to go down a hook size for their envelope borders, but I don’t really notice a difference. So it’s up to you if you used a 4mm or 3.5mm
This border was designed in 7 colors: the 6 colors of the rainbow plus my neutral/white. But you can choose whatever colors you want!
Get creative! Maybe instead of rainbow colors, neutrals or earth tones are a better complement to your decor. I won’t get offended if you take creative liberties on the color scheme. In fact, I would love to see what fun color schemes you come up with. So share your color combos on the FB group!
