Crochet up these textured Christmas tree ornaments quickly using this free crochet pattern and video tutorial. This pattern is a perfect way to use up yarn from your stash while adding a bit of hand-made flair to your holiday decor!
This special bauble combines both mesh and puff stitches to give this wonderfully textured, geometric look which you probably won’t find in any old store-bought one! If you don’t know how these will work up into this ornament, just follow the free pattern below or the video tutorial linked in this post.
These Spumoni Baubles are the perfect addition to your handmade Christmas decorations. You can use a nice striped or ombré yarn to give more definition to the stitches as well.

Skill Level:
Intermediate
Materials
Yarn: Scraps of worsted weight yarn in 1 color. I used Furls Wander 100% Acrylic,
- Hook: H/8 – 5.00 mm
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- 2.65 inch plastic bauble ornament
Gauge:
Not essential for this pattern. Simply adjust hook size or bauble size if too big or small
Finished Size:
Fits a 2.65” diameter plastic bauble ornament.
Stitch Abbreviations (US Terminology):
- ch – Chain
- dc – Double Crochet
- dec – Decrease
- mc – Magic Circle
- sc – Single Crochet
- sk – Skip
- sl st – Slip Stitch
- yo – Yarn Over
Special Stitches:
Mesh: Stitch pattern made when not working up the puff rounds. Essentially each round is a *sc, ch1* repeat. The sc are worked in the sc of the previous round, and the ch-1 space is skipped with another ch-1.
Puff (9 loop): Yo and insert hook into next st, yo and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yo and insert hook into same st (4 loops on hook), yo and pull up loop (5 loops on hook), yo and insert hook into same st (6 loops on hook), yo and pull up loop (7 loops on hook), yo and insert hook into same st (8 loops on hook), yo and pull up loop (9 loops on hook), yo and pull through all loops on hook, ch 1.
Pattern Notes:
- This pattern is worked in the round, turning prior to starting each round.
- The sc sts are made into the sc stitch, skipping over the ch-1 space with a ch 1.
- There are 2 rounds of puff stitch. The rest is using mesh stitch as described above.
- Test fit with the ornament throughout. If you find the bauble is too tight or too loose, the adjust your hook size accordingly. If you tend to have loose tension when you crochet, you may need to go down a hook size to make this bauble, or simply buy a bigger bauble to make your finished size.
