Materials
- DK (#3) weight yarn in two contrasting colors
- The full blanket shown above was crocheted using Stylecraft Special DK.
- Crochet hook size – 4mm/G-6
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Row counter (optional)
Finished Measurements
The final blanket as pictured above (based on five repeats) is apx. 207 by 144cm (81.5 by 57 inches).
Stitch Abbreviations (US Terminology)
- BBS – Beginning Border Stitch
- BLOsc – Back Loop Only Single Crochet
- ch – Chain
- EBS – Ending Border Stitch
- FLOdc – Front Loop Only Double Crochet
- Fsc – Foundation single crochet
- lp – Loop
- RS – Right Side

Special Stitches
Beginning Border Stitch (BBS): A standing sc through the post (or the ‘v’) of the stitch below, ensuring that both legs of the stitch on the WS are to the outside of the washcloth. (For right-handed crocheters the legs would be secured to the right of the stitch and vice versa for left-handed crocheters.)
Back Loop Only Single Crochet (BLOsc): Insert hook in back loop of indicated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook.
Front Loop Only Double Crochet (FLOdc): Yo, insert hook in front loop of st below the indicated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through two lps on hook, yo and draw through remaining two lops on hook.
Ending Border Stitch (EBS): A sc through the post (or the ‘v’) of the stitch below, ensuring that both legs of the stitch on the WS are to the outside of the washcloth. (Similar to BBS, but the back legs of the stitch are secured to the opposite side.)
Notes
- Chart is worked from right to left on Right Side only. (If you are left handed, feel free to work from left to right).
- Every row is worked in a different color.
- Fasten off at the end of each row, leaving 3-inch tails.
- Every row begins with a beginning border stitch.
- Every row ends with an ending border stitch.
- Single crochet stitches are worked in the back loop only of the previous row.
- Double crochet stitches are worked in the front loop only of the stitch two rows below.
- The colorwork technique used in this pattern is overlay mosaic crochet. No bobbins are needed. Color changes are made at the beginning of each row.

Mosaic Crochet Chart for the HeartScape Blanket Strip
You may be thinking, “Isn’t this chart upside down?” You’re right! Each section was designed upside down so that the blanket can be worked from the top down, starting with January. This way, you will end up with months in the correct order once finished.
