Juniper Bookmark – Alpine Stitch – FREE Crochet Pattern
Back in January of this year, I announced my Bookmark Bonanza CAL which has been such a lovely journey so far. If you’re just joining us, let me give a quick recap. The Bookmark Bonanza is a year-long crochet-a-long where I’ll read 12 books of varying genres and lengths and crochet a unique bookmark for each one. So far, I’ve released three patterns (and one bonus!) for the books Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend by Matthew Dicks, This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty. The bookmarks which corresponded with these books are given below:
I hope you’ll enjoy catching up as I continue unveiling a new pattern every month along with the book I’ll be reading. If you don’t want to wait until the end of the year to finish your collection, you can buy an ad-free PDF of all 12 in the Bookmark Bonanza CAL Pattern Bundle. They each come with a video tutorial and a little book review.
You can share your thoughts on the book of the month in both my Facebook group and CAL group on Ravelry and see how others are styling their bookmarks.
This month, I’m reading It Ends With Us.
“Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.“
This bookmark has a very special meaning to me because it’s named after my baby Juniper. She was meant to join us in April a few years ago but I miscarried. I thought it was only fitting to create a pattern in her honor in this month.
She’s forever a very important part of me, taking one half of my business name as well, and I love honoring her memory with unique, beautiful patterns. I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did and crocheting its bookmark.
If you have wonderful memories associated with the crochet projects you make, I’d love to hear about them!

- The special stitch used in this pattern is the Alpine Stitch, which is essentially chaining 1 and working a sc in the ch 1 space of the previous row. See Rows 7-13.
- If you prefer to make a different size, simply chain an even number of stitches then work the pattern as written.
- Work more or less repeat rows if you’d like your bookmark longer or shorter.
